The Handmaiden is a South Korean psychological thriller set in 1930s Korea, inspired by the novel Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. The story follows a young woman, Sook-hee, who is hired as a handmaiden to a wealthy Japanese heiress, Hideko. As Sook-hee becomes more involved in Hideko’s life, a complex web of deception, betrayal, and forbidden love unfolds. What begins as a plot to defraud Hideko soon turns into a passionate and dangerous romance, leading to unexpected twists and turns. The film is a masterful blend of suspense, eroticism, and betrayal.
